On March 18, 2008, Filas and MDeC, the Multimedia Development Corporation of Malaysia, signed a MoU for the development of audiovisuals between Lazio Region and Malaysian companies.
The agreement was signed at the Hong Kong Filmart at the presence of Mr. Marco Maria Cerbo, Italian Consul to Hong Kong, and Peter Phang, Director of the Malaysia Office at the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
The Memorandum of Understanding addresses research and development in the ICT sector, provides incentives for development and innovation of the creative industries and the media sector in the two countries and unfolds new business opportunities throughout the Far East.
The agreement will promote development and innovation of the creative and media industries in the two countries and unfold new business opportunities throughout Asia. The Malaysian market is valued at over US$ 13 billion, including more than US$ 4 billion in exports. The main actions called for by the MoU include the creation of coproductions, network meetings, joint participation in business trips, a convention and international events as well as the exchange of good practices, technology transfer and the joint use of know-how, research, market studies and competitive business intelligence.
The MoU calls for the joint participation of Italian and Malaysian audiovisual companies in EU, national and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) programmes. Moreover, the agreement calls for the public and private financing of industrial and innovative projects by the two parties.
Filas lead a delegation of five Lazio producers to the Hong Kong Filmart Event. The producers met with Malaysian and Asian producers present at the event in a series of fruitful business meetings. The Italian delegation included the following production companies: Movie Factory, Orisa produzioni, The Pool Factory, Publispei e Future Film.
