Sidereus Country Showcase and B2B Event

Sidereus Country Showcase and B2B event

The Sidereus Country Showcase and B2B event was successfully held in Rome, Italy on June 11-12, 2009.

The final event of Project Sidereus, attended by about 100 delegates from both Europe and Asia, was organised to provide further opportunities for European and Asian companies to establish fruitful business collaborations following the successful matchmaking event organised in Beijing, China (November 26-28, 2008) and the “Business Opportunities in China” Seminar that was recently held in Rome.

Following a welcome address by Filas General Manager Stefano Turi, Ms. Michela Michilli, Head of EU Projects and Initiatives for Filas and Sidereus Project Director, opened the morning session by explaining how the event was structured and presenting the prestigious panel of speakers.
The morning session featured an interesting line-up, including Mr. Pieter De Smet (DGTREN, Galileo Office) for the EU who outlined Galileo policies and plans and Mr. Shen Jun (BNSTAR Navigation, Technology and System Co.) who provided a similar overview for the Chinese Compass GNSS. Then, Ms. Carla Filotico (Booz & Co.) presented a detailed overview of the space market and its future prospects with a special focus on the Lazio Region in the greater European Context.

Subsequently, the floor was given to the National Councillors of the European project partners who introduced the aerospace and ICT companies that were present in Rome to conduct further business meetings with their Asian counterparts.

Mr. Ellio de Tullio concluded the morning panel by presenting the China IPR Help Desk that provides practical, business-focused advice to SMEs working with China.
The timely coffee break immediately turned into a preliminary round of matchmaking events that were then pursued as scheduled in the garden gazebo where lunch was served.
In fact, the Rome event was hosted at the prestigious Casa del Cinema inside the world-renowned Casina delle Rose, one of the most beautiful structures in the vast Villa Borghese park in central Rome.

The afternoon session featured a series of presentations by the Asian National Councillors who introduced the Asian companies. In particular, Mr. Wang Wenjian (China Academy of space Technology and President of China Galileo Industries) and Ms Lu Yu  (Secretary General, CCA) gave a very meticulous presentation on behalf of the Chinese companies. Subsequently, Mr Subramanyam (SLN FleetM8 Vehicle Tracking Systems Pvt Ltd) presented the outlook of India and the participating companies. Mr. Gan Yung Sze from Thales Technology Centre in Singapore concluded the afternoon panel.

The afternoon provided a further two hours for matchmaking and informal business meetings in the garden gazebo and was concluded by followed by a networking cocktail.
