Filas Participates in the 4th Italian Workshop on Open Source for Archaeology

Ms. Flaminia Saccà, the President of Filas, will participate in the Fourth Italian Workshop on Open Source in Archaeology. The workshop will be held on April 27-28 at the headquarters of CNR, the National Italian Research Centre.

The event has been organised by the Institute for the Application of Technology to the Cultural Heritage (Itabc) in collaboration with the Institute of Science and Computer Technology. The event has received the patronage of the Cultural Heritage Department of the CNR.

The workshop is organised into four half-day sessions. During the opening session, the projects, state of the art and future objectives of the Lazio Region Cultural Heritage District (DTC) will be illustrated.

The two-day workshop aims to fully address Open Source analysing all its issues and technical, methodological and operative aspects, with a specific session dedicated to the neophytes and students and three further sessions reserved for scholars selected from the scientific committee. The workshop will address four main areas: open data, open learning, open software and open processes.

The 2009 edition presents a new feature, the openlab. Besides the traditional works of the event, a laboratory will be used to present open source projects and tools. Speakers will be able to use the laboratory for informal demonstrations of their applications an allow participants to test, install and use them. The objective is the to promote the diffusion of open tools in the humanities by overcoming the potential barrier posed by the initial adoption of these tools.
