GALILEO – European Radio-navigation and Satellite Positioning Programme

Galileo Information Day
16 February 9.30 am

Hotel NH Leonardo da Vinci
Via dei Gracchi
Rome

New satellite navigation applications are developed every day. These applications address a vast range of vital sectors in the current global economic system. The world market of applications and products for this sector is estimated to reach €400 billion by 2010.

These activities provide an invaluable opportunity for the European industry to acquire the knowledge and competences that are vital to promote the conditions for strong international competition, especially that of the key players in this context: small and medium-sized enterprises.

In this context, the development of the Galileo Programme is confirming both its technical feasibility and the European ability to autonomously implement all the necessary infrastructures for a satellite navigation system. The main objective of the current development phase is to complete the space and earth segments necessary for the full operation of Galileo.

The main issues addressed by the second call of the Galileo Programme concern:

• Developing the full programme potential
• Providing necessary means and creating an adequate environment
• Adapting receivers to the required criteria and updating core technology
• Supporting the development of infrastructures

In collaboration with ASI (the Italian Space Agency) and APRE, FIILAS is organising an information day with the support of the Lazio Region to provide an overview of sector strategy and policies as well as presenting all the opportunities presented by the new Galileo Call (€30 million budget, deadline March 31, 2009).

This event is part of the informational activities organised by the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN). EEN is the largest network of contact points providing information and advice to EU companies on EU matters, in particular small and medium enterprises (SMEs), providing practical answers to specific questions in your language.

The event will feature presentations by members of the European Commission, the Italian Space Agency and the Lazio Region.. The Galileo Programme is part of the Cooperation Programme of FP7 – Theme 7 Transports (including aeronautics).
